LOUISVILLE, Ky. (KT) – From September 22 to October 31, pro-life supporters will rally outside the EMW Women’s Surgical Center as part of a peaceful ecumenical effort to pray for an end to abortion. This will be one of many campaigns running simultaneously nationwide.

The “fundamentals” of the campaign are prayer, fasting and public witness, according to Ed Harpring, event organizer and former pro-life coordinator for the Archdiocese of Louisville.

“We really ask God to hear our prayers and to end the abortion, and to help these women and men who come into (the) abortion center to change their minds,” Harpring said. “Prayer, fasting, and public witnessing have been proven by the Bible to work, which is why we are (here).

“The more you get involved (40 days to life) you realize how important it is because it is peaceful and prayerful and it brings the whole community together,” added Carol Masters, Louisville event manager. . ” That’s what I like. We’re all here as a community – and it’s all the different churches, denominations, organizations, and people (that) come together. “

The 40 Days for Life campaign has drawn prayers to the state’s most prolific abortion care provider since 2007. While volunteers have prayed on-site 24 hours a day in previous years, the vigil continued. will be held from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. until the end of October.

Not everyone responded positively to the prayer vigil.

“It’s very common for people to drive (or) walk and (to) let (us) know by hand gestures or remarks that they don’t approve of us being there,” Harpring said. “It kind of goes with the lay of the land. We usually don’t respond unless there is an opportunity to have a civilian conversation. “

Negative responses have not deterred volunteers from advocating for unborn children and promoting the sanctity of human life for the past 14 years.

“This is important to Kentucky and all (participating) cities in the United States because it saves lives,” said Harpring. “So far, more than 19,000 lives have been saved thanks to 40 Days of the Life.”

While some diets suggest that the key to weight loss is to eat only one meal per day, other popular diets suggest that people should eat up to six small meals per day. Many of us have also been raised to eat three meals a day – so which is better?

Many diets also follow a three square meal eating pattern. Having such a rigid approach can leave people feeling hungry between meals. This can cause people to snack between meals or even overeat in the process.

But while snacking between meals has long been seen as a way to avoid hunger, some early studies have found that eating more meals per day is linked to lower body weight. Since then, research has looked at a variety of different eating patterns, ranging from “snacking” (up to 17 small meals per day) to “force-feeding” (two to three meals per day).

There is a popular belief that snacking increases your metabolism, but it doesn’t. A study shows that snacking causes a less pronounced insulin spike after meals than force-feeding. This indicates better blood sugar control, which may be indirectly linked to better weight management by storing less fat. But until more research is done, snacking may not burn more calories than force-feeding.

Subsequent studies that looked at the effect of eating between two and four meals a day failed to show whether snacking or bingeing is more beneficial for weight loss. Some studies show that eating more frequently helps you lose weight, but it can also increase hunger and interfere with your ability to eliminate fat from the blood, a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

But the way we eat has changed over the decades, more and more of us are snacking or following other eating patterns, such as intermittent fasting, which advocate reducing the number of meals eaten or eating less. allow more time between meals. It is believed that such eating habits will help the body to lose weight better.

When we follow a traditional eating pattern of three meals a day, we tend to spend a large portion of our time (12 hours or more) in the postprandial state, with very little time in a truly fasting state.

These diets are based on an understanding of the different metabolic states of our body. After eating, our body enters the postprandial state. During this state, which can last for several hours, the body stores energy from the foods we have just eaten – often as fat. The post-absorption (or fasting) period is when the body begins to burn store fuel, which does not really begin until about ten hours or more after a meal.

When we follow a traditional eating pattern of three meals a day, we tend to spend a large portion of our time (12 hours or more) in the postprandial state, with very little time in a truly fasting state. This is further exaggerated with grazing or “snacking” eating habits. Intermittent fasting diets are based on the idea that reducing the frequency of meals will ensure that your body spends more time fasting. It is believed that it will improve your ability to manage fat and carbohydrates in the meal. These diets can give better control over the storage and burning of fat stores and improve your metabolic health.

This is also why some people choose to intentionally skip meals, like breakfast, while following a normal eating pattern (as opposed to intermittent fasting, where they can still eat three meals but over a shorter period, like eight. time). The emerging field of chrononutrition has also revealed that humans are designed to eat during the day rather than later in the evening – similar to our preferred sleep schedule. Some research has shown that eating later in the day is associated with higher body weight. Research also suggests that we are more likely to eat unhealthy foods when we eat outside of our natural circadian rhythm.

Another consideration is when we eat carbohydrates. The way you manage carbohydrates during a meal can be influenced by whether we have eaten carbohydrates in previous meals – this is called the second meal phenomenon. Carbohydrates are largely responsible for the body’s transition to the postprandial state, the release of insulin, and the control of fat storage. This means that if we eat carbohydrates with every meal, we are more likely to store them as fat. Some research suggests that limiting carbohydrates can help us burn more fat during exercise and may improve physical performance.

Different dietary strategies can have different benefits for our body, such as better blood sugar control. But when it comes to losing weight, no one strategy seems to work better than another. Ultimately, the eating strategy that works best for a person will be different. Knowing which strategy is best for you depends on many factors, such as your goals, lifestyle, sleep pattern, and the type of exercise you do.

Sri Lankan Catholics observed fasts and prayers asking for God’s intercession to prevent, protect and heal all those affected by the Covid-19 virus in the country and around the world.

Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo, called on priests, nuns and laity to pray and recite the Rosary on September 8, celebrated as Mother Mary’s birthday.

“Celebrate Mother Mary’s birthday as a day of fasting and prayer from home. Recite the Rosary… to save our country and the world from the deadly pandemic, ”he said.

Cardinal Ranjith called on the forces trying to control the world through the coronavirus. “The virus is recognized as a product made in modern laboratories for the power struggles of powerful nations,” he said.

“Mother Mary, eliminate the fear of illness and bless all people so that they can live happily in their own lands… Intercede for us so that the sick are healed and the healthy are not sick”, we read in a prayer specially composed for the occasion.

Mary Nilani, a Catholic mother from the west coast town of Negombo, said many families attend rosary recitals and watch and listen to Catholic TV and radio stations.

Various groups, including priests, religious and lay leaders, have been tasked with continuing to recite the Rosary until midnight, even as the island nation observed a quarantine curfew that will last until September 13.

Catholics also mourned the recent death of country music legend Sunil Perera due to complications from Covid on September 6. “We mourn his passing, although what he left us will continue to resonate in our hearts,” Cardinal Ranjith said in a statement.

Heenmenike, the wife of prominent Sri Lankan Aboriginal leader Uruwarige Vannila Aththo, died of Covid-19 on September 5. The pandemic has claimed the lives of priests, nuns, doctors and nurses, among others.

Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that with the spread of the Delta variant, Sri Lanka has seen its highest number of patients and deaths this year.

Rambukwella said saving people’s lives is the top priority. More than 85 percent of the population over the age of 20 received the first dose of the vaccine and 62 percent received both doses.

Sri Lanka has been designated a red zone based on the current prevalence of Covid-19. The number of deaths across the country had risen to 10,524 while the number of new infections stood at 2,964 on September 7. Most of the people who died were 60 and over.

Shani Pradosh Vrat is an auspicious holiday in Hinduism and is celebrated to seek blessings from Lord Shiva. According to the Hindu calendar, the Pradosh fast takes place each month on treyodashi tithi (thirteenth day of the lunar fortnight). Since the first Pradosh fast of the month of Bhadrapada is observed on Saturday, it is called the Shani Pradosh fast.

This holy day has special meaning for the followers of Lord Shiva and they observe a one day fast called Pradosh Vrat and the puja is performed after sunset during Pradosh Kaal.

Two Pradosh fasts are observed each month, one in Krishna Paksha and the other in Shukla Paksha. At present, the Krishna Paksha of the month Bhadrapada of the Hindu calendar is in effect. The name of the Pradosh vrat changes depending on the day with which it coincides.

Shani Pradosh Vrat 2021: date and time

Shani Pradosh Vrat is observed across the country on September 4, 2021. According to Hindu Panchang, the Trayodashi Tithi month of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada begins at 8:24 am on Saturday and will end the next day, September 5, at 8:24 am.

Shani Pradosh Vrat 2021: Shubh Muhurat

The Shubh Muhurat for the performance of Trayodashi Tithi puja takes place between 6:39 pm and 8:56 pm on Saturdays. According to the Panchang, a two hour and 16 minute muhurat will be available for the worship of Shani Pradosh today and people observing the fast are to worship Lord Shiva between 6:39 p.m. and 8:56 p.m. today.

According to the rules, devotees must perform the prayers of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati during the Shani Pradosh Muhurat. It is believed that Lord Mahadev will bless the faithful with health, contentment, long life, wealth and good luck.

Shani Pradosh Vrat 2021: Puja Vidhi

People observe a one-day fast and take a bath in the morning and worship Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati during the Pradosh fast. They vow to serve Lord Shiva by performing pujas and rituals. The devotional space is cleaned before placing the idols of the deities.

Devotees offer Gangajal to Lord Shiva and chant Shiva mantras and also offer “Bhang” to Lord Bholenath in the evening with dhatura, belpatra, akshat, incense, fruits, flowers and kheer. Singing Shiv Chalisa and Shivashtak is a must and it is believed that this day will bring joy and richness.

Shani Pradosh Vrat 2021: Importance

The devotees of Lord Shiva celebrate his victory over demons and pay him rich homage by keeping a vrat on the Trayodashi Tithi. The day is important because on this day Lord Mahadev with his mount (vahana) and Nandi (bull) defeated Asuras and Danavas, which caused enormous destruction.

During Pradosh Kaal, the Devas visited Kailash, the heavenly abode of Lord Shiva, to ask for help, after which Bholenath fought a battle and ended the cruelty of the Asura. Since then, devotees observe a vrat and perform a puja to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and pray for a peaceful, joyful and prosperous life.

It is also believed that those who fast in Shani Pradosh receive the blessings of Shakti and Shiva and are blessed with a child. Many astrologers also recommend the Shani Pradosh fast for couples without children.
