Hinckey Museum plans virtual summer exhibit and lending library

HINCKLEY — The LC Bates Museum’s summer art exhibit, Wilderness and Culture, is set to open May 7 with a virtual reception from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The exhibition, which includes 35 works by 20 artists, is curated by Colby students María Minuesa and Caroline Scarola, under the direction of Professor Véronique Plesch.

In addition to the exhibit, the museum has begun creating a lending library of science resources for teachers and families. This resource aims to support museum and trail visitors. It will be available for elementary classroom learning, according to the museum’s press release.

The library will include practical items to explore to learn more about Maine’s habitats and their inhabitants. The museum is looking for volunteers to help develop and assemble the library.

The museum is also looking for support to help with trail collecting, assembling children’s kits, creating resources for the science library, fundraising and cataloging the collections.
