New Sprouts arrive in Phoenix with opening offer

A new Sprouts Farmers Market is sprouting up along the Phoenix-Glendale border near the West Arizona State University campus and will offer an opening day discount to shoppers.

The store will open July 21 at Deer Valley Mall, 4201 Thunderbird Road.

The opening will come two days after the Sprouts store two miles southwest, near Peoria and 51st Avenue, Shutters.

The new store measures 25,000 square feet, which is slightly smaller than the 30,600 square foot store that is closing.

Sprouts director of format David McGlinchey says updates to decor and shelves, panels and reduced footprint will be easier for buyers to navigate.

“This one will be the first of our kind of new store format,” spokeswoman Kalia Pang said, adding that the reduced size is mostly in the back home inventory areas, so “the experience customer when they enter the store won do not feel smaller.

To promote the grand opening, the first 200 customers will receive a 20% discount on their first purchase and a free tote bag.

The Phoenix-based grocery chain opened its first store in Chandler in 2002 and now has more than 360 stores in 23 states. The company plans to open about 20 more Sprouts in the United States this year, including one in Maricopa.

New Store Features

The new Sprouts store will feature an Innovation Center display with featured products, such as keto, paleo, vegan and organic products that are often exclusive to the store.

Shoppers will also find an expanded frozen section with “plant-based meals and meat substitutes, and a refrigerated section showcasing the latest plant-based foods,” according to the company.

The store will participate in the Sprouts Food Rescue Program, which donates groceries to the St. Mary’s Food Bank. The program served 23 million meals to people in need last year, the company said.
