Pamela Anderson Launches Vegan Apple Skin Leather Handbag
Reading time: 2 minutes
Celebrity and animal rights activist Pamela Anderson has teamed up with French fashion house Ashoka Paris to create a new line of cruelty-free vegan handbags made from apple leather.
After a successful collaboration in 2020 with the Parisian fashion brand, the Baywatch star is once again teaming up with Ashoka Paris to create a new collection of vegan shopping bags available in red, black, terracotta and nude.
Uses apples that would otherwise be wasted
The PETA-approved Pamela Shopping Collection includes four bags made of apple skin leather, a revolutionary biodegradable material made from apple waste sourced in Italy.
Apple leather is made from the cores and skins discarded by the industrial food industry.
The wasted fruit remains are gathered, pressed and naturally dried into a fine powder. The fine powder is then mixed with a resin-like material and dried, producing a soft, leather-like sheet.
Each bag’s interior liners feature Pamela’s stylized lips and her inspirational activist slogan “RESIST!”, and like all liners in their entire collection, they’re made from recycled plastic bottles.
For many years, Pamela Anderson has supported PETA and actively campaigned for animal rights.
On their website, Ashoka Paris shared, “Partnering Pamela Anderson, 2018 PETA Award Personality of the Year and Ashoka ParisPETA Award 2018 Best Vegan Bag was a natural fit. Working on this Vegan bag project with Pamela, global celebrity and committed activist, is an honor and a fabulous experience”.
As part of this collaboration, Ashoka Paris will donate part of the sales to the Pamela Anderson Foundation, a non-profit foundation that has worked for 25 years to support and protect human rights, animals and the environment.
If you want to get your hands on a bag, Ashoka Paris and Pamila Anderson are running a contest with PETA UK where one lucky fan will have the chance to win an ultra-chic bag in the color of their choice.
The future of fashion
Considered the future of fashion, a growing number of brands are ditching animal skin in favor of vegan alternatives, like apple leather.
The shift to sustainable and ethical materials is extremely driven by animal welfare and the environmental concerns that come with leather production.
