Two members of the University of Wyoming Extension communications team recently received national honors from the Association for Communication Excellence (ACE).
ACE recognized Tanya Engel and Steve Miller of the UW Communications and Technology Extension Office for their outstanding work on two annual publications produced by the UW College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The awards were presented at the ACE 2022 conference in Kansas City, Mo. last month.
ACE is a professional organization comprised of communicators, professors, and administrators from agricultural colleges, land-grant universities, and agriculture-related industries across the country.
“It’s gratifying to see our UW extension communications team produce work that rivals the best products from some of the nation’s top land-grant universities,” said David Keto, director of the UW extension office of the communications and technology.
Reflections, the college’s annual research magazine, received a gold award in the technical publications category. Miller, now retired, was the magazine’s editor and Engel was the graphic designer.
“Tanya Engel and Steve Miller have done a phenomenal job of translating complex research into an eye-catching, easy-to-understand magazine that highlights cutting-edge research from our Wyoming Agricultural Experiment Station,” says Keto.
Downloadable copies of Reflections are available at www.uwyo.edu/uwexpstn/publications/reflections.
Engel also won a bronze medal in the Photo Enhanced category for a photo she took of Pistol and Pete, UW’s workhorse team. The photo is the cover image of the 2022 Gun and Pete calendar, and it features the two horses standing outside the door of a historic UW farm building in Laramie.
The winning photo and iconic calendar “do a great job bringing out the personality of our workhorse team,” says Keto. “Thanks to Engel’s creativity, each year’s calendar features a new set of amusing and sometimes funny photos capturing Pistol and Pete in action.”
